Mcleans Magazine ranks Salmon Arm as #1 city in B.C and #6 in Canada

SALMON ARM #1 IN BRITISH COLUMBIA

Maclean's magazine introduced its 2019 roster of the Best Communities in Canada, conducting a meticulous assessment of 415 cities across 10 diverse categories: wealth and economy, affordability, population growth, taxes, commute, crime, weather, access to health care, amenities, and culture.

Notably, several cities in British Columbia earned prominent positions across various top-10 lists. In the weather category, for example, five Interior cities secured the top spots, with Summerland claiming the lead at No. 1, followed by Penticton, Kamloops, West Kelowna, and Lake Country. Additionally, eleven Ontario cities, including Colwood at 17, Langford at 18, Esquimalt at 19, and Vernon at 20, were closely ranked.

These rankings reflect thoughtful considerations, especially acknowledging the intense summers in the Southern Interior and the consistently mild weather on Vancouver Island.

Salmon Arm Mayor Alan Harrison expressed excitement about the city's achievements, stating, “We’re thrilled to be ranked No. 1 in B.C., and No. 6 in the nation. Salmon Arm is really on the map now. With nearly 20,000 people, we serve as a hub for the Shuswap. While we have easy access to Kelowna, Kamloops, and Vernon as nearby cities, we've successfully established our own identity, attracting not only retirees but also numerous young families.”
